Today I begin a new journey to lose some weight and reign in some of the binge and out of control eating that I've become accustomed to in the recent months. I'm going to attempt this with BLE.
Bright Line Eating, or BLE from now on, is structured to help you control portions and type of foods eaten across 3 meals in the day with no snacking in between. It also has you eliminate all forms of added sugar and flour of any kind. In addition, you plan out your meals in specified quantities within categories of food. For example: Breakfast: 1 protein serving, 1 grain serving, and 1 fruit serving. Each serving has its limits so you don't overeat in any one category but also doesn't restrict you for what type you can have in each category as long as it doesn't contain sugar and flour. Seems restrictive at first glance, but I tried it out today on Day 0 and felt good about it.
I call today Day 0 because I used it as a transition day. I ate only my 3 meals: breakfast and lunch were perfectly measured and according to the quantity limits. Dinner wasn't measured and controlled because we were out and I didn't (but easily could have) avoided foods that were not on my list to eat. I gave in right at the end and tried some tortellini with homemade pesto and a small scoop of mashed potatoes and that sent me spiraling. If I had already made exceptions for those items, why couldn't I just have a taste of this cheese? What about a taste of these olives? And how about one or two bites of this dessert? And this dessert? OOhh OOhh OOhh and THIS dessert! Moderation does not come easily to me the way it does for others so I feel that living with the BLE rules might be a good thing for me to control my cravings and keep me in check.
But since I've started reading the categories and thinking "what am I going to eat" my little creative foodie brain has started to whirl! Who said being healthy didn't also have to be fun and delicious? So I embark now to document my journey each day of BLE, with both the simple combinations I make as well as the fun and creative recipes I'm hoping to make.
Day 1 (without any line smudging or crossing!) begins tomorrow.
